Senior Power Market Analyst - London
EP Commodities London is strengthening its coverage of North-Western and Central European power markets. We are hiring a Senior Power Analyst with strong fundamentals knowledge, hands on experience in stack/dispatch modelling, and a track record of generating market-driven trading insights.
A key responsibility includes producing power and emissions forecasts up to five years ahead, combined with participation in long-term scenario development (2050+) used by the holding group for strategic planning. Experience with asset optimisation, dispatch fundamentals and hedging is highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
Market Fundamentals & Forecasting (0-5 years)
Produce detailed power price forecasts up to five years ahead for DE, NL, UK, FR, BE
Analyse supply/demand balances, RES generation, outages, weather dynamics, interconnector flows, fuel markets and policy developments
Prepare short term and forward curve outlooks (FM, FQ, FS, CAL)
Trading Idea Generation
Identify opportunities in:
Backtest and stress test trade ideas with sensitivities and scenario analysis
Present structured proposals to spec and portfolio trading desks
Stack Modelling & Calibration
Run and refine mid term and long term stack models
Tune assumptions for availability, RES profiles, hydro inflows, system constraints and demand patterns
Benchmark and validate model output against market reality and external vendors
Long Term Scenario Work (to 2050+)
Contribute to long term model runs and strategic scenarios including policy pathways, capacity shifts, renewable acceleration and flexibility requirements
Support holding level planning around long term system transformation
Cross Functional Collaboration
Prepare dashboards, reports and structured commentary for traders and management
Work closely with gas, emissions and weather analysts to create cross commodity insights
Support optimisation and risk teams with fundamentals driven analysis
Requirements
3-7+ years of experience in European power analytics
Strong understanding of NWE fundamentals (merit order, congestion, RES dynamics, policy frameworks)
Experience with stack/dispatch modelling
Exposure to asset optimisation, dispatch or hedging is a strong advantage
Comfortable with Python/Excel and handling large datasets
Strong communication skills and ability to deliver clear commercial insights
EU languages (DE/NL/FR/IT) are an asset
