About the position

The incumbent under the guidance of the Parks Department Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the beauty and integrity of all public spaces in Downtown Fort Smith. All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times. All other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or department director.

Responsibilities

  • Perform litter control throughout Downtown, including, but not limited to, streets, sidewalks, storefronts, public parking lots, alleyways and landscaped areas.
  • ,
  • Complete routine observations to ensure operability of public spaces and amenities, such as streetscape lighting, traffic/pedestrian signals, irrigation, water features or other items, and report any issues.
  • ,
  • Assist in minor maintenance tasks, including, but not limited to, irrigation, lighting, trash receptacles, and statues.
  • ,
  • Perform lawn and landscape duties as required or assigned including planting, weeding, mulching, mowing, edging, and tree trimming.
  • ,
  • Apply herbicides/pesticides for vegetation control.
  • ,
  • Remediate graffiti or other vandalism to public spaces.
  • ,
  • Pressure wash sidewalks as directed.
  • ,
  • Operate all related equipment and tools.
  • ,
  • Evening/weekend work may be required.
  • ,
  • Assist with barricades or traffic control devices for downtown events as directed.
  • ,
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • ,
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • ,
  • Minimum of one-year general labor work experience is preferred but not required.
  • ,
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of one-year general landscaping work experience.
  • ,
  • Minimum of one-year customer service experience.
