Freelance Proofreader – Curriculum Team

United Learning’s Curriculum Team is seeking a freelance proofreader to support our team on a project-by-project basis. We are looking for a freelancer to proofread our curriculum resources. These are written by subject experts and used by teachers across the country. The role is to check resources are clear and consistent before they’re shared with schools.

As a proofreader, you’ll be reviewing PowerPoint and Word documents, checking for spelling, punctuation, grammar (SPaG), formatting consistency and adherence to a provided style guide. You’ll ensuring that every resource is accurate, accessible and ready for classroom use.

The role is for a Freelance Proofreader, working remotely at a rate of £16.50 per hour. The contract begins in December 2025, initially covering 75 hours with the potential for extension. The position offers flexible hours within the project deadline, and the applicant closing date is yet to be confirmed.

Responsibilities

• Proofread curriculum resources in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
• Ensure clarity, consistency and correctness across all materials
• Follow a provided style guide to maintain editorial standards
• Complete assigned work within agreed timeframes – no fixed working days or hours

Additional Info

• A Microsoft 365 subscription is required; the monthly cost will be reimbursed alongside your earnings
• Turnaround expectations will vary depending on the size of the unit or task assigned

As a freelancer, you will be expected to:

• Manage and submit your own invoices
• Keep a log of hours worked
• Share this information with the team for oversight and payment processing
• You must have the right to work in the UK and be based in the UK.
